The Tie That Binds - Week 2

10.03.20 | Articles by John Matkin

Join us this coming Sunday, as we continue our fall worship series - The Tie That Binds. We’re looking at the book of Ephesians, where the apostle Paul writes forcefully about the church being united in and through Jesus Christ: “from him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part” (4:16). This Sunday, we will be looking at music and song as a meaningful and powerful tie that binds us together in the church.

The series also includes a unique opportunity for us to hear directly from different church members about what binds them to this body of Christ, Dickinson First United Methodist. Each week before the sermon, I’ll sit down with an individual, couple, family, or group of members. We’ll hear them tell their own story in their own words - powerful stuff!

For those joining us online, we invite you each week to bring into your home worship space - whether den, patio, or breakfast nook - a piece of string, twine, ribbon, or anything else that you can tie a knot with. When it is time in worship to tie your knot, please place this knot somewhere in your home to be reminded we are woven together as a faith community.

This Sunday, let’s speak to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual song, signing and making music with our hearts (Ephesians 5:19).

    God bless,
    Jack Matkin
