The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock

11.13.20 | News by John Matkin

Christ’s parable of the wise man building his house upon “the rock” instead of sand is one of the earliest stories we learn growing up in the church. Of course, Jesus is talking about building one’s life upon the foundation of faith and trust in God rather than anything else. But, in reality, it takes a lot of wisdom to build any structures to stand the test of time, and the test of faith.

Dickinson First has been blessed throughout the years with wise and faithful members who not only built our church buildings, but also maintained them. In this season of thanksgiving, we want to thank all of our church members who have served as Church Trustees, on Building Project Committees or Rebuilding Task Forces, and all who have lent a hand for an hour or a day to keep our buildings up-to-date.

This week, our sanctuary ceiling and cupola received special attention in a renovation project that is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month. The Dickinson volunteer Fire Department assisted in our efforts by spraying water on the roof so we could check for any unidentified leaks. The Trustees also replaced the backyard fence at the parsonage.

Tomorrow, Saturday, November 14, the Trustees invite you to participate in a Church Yard Workday, 9:00 to Noon. We want to spend some dedicated time on the grounds before the onset of colder and wetter weather. Much of the work will be in the landscaping beds surrounding the church building. Bring your mask, garden or work gloves, something to kneel on if that would be helpful for you, and basic garden tools.

Let’s continue to be wise people!
