This coming week, we welcome Kanika Douglas to our congregation. Kanika will be serving in a seminary internship while completing her final year of study for a Master of Divinity degree at SMU’s Perkins School of Theology. Over the next nine months, Kanika will have the opportunity to experience many different areas of local church ministry. Her primary work responsibilities will be in Discipleship, Caring, and Worship.

Before beginning this stage of her seminary training, Kanika taught elementary school for nine years in Virginia and Texas. She grew up in the Dallas area and is married to Edgar; they met while attending college at The Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Kanika and Edgar have four children: Egar III, 10; Ruby, 7; Elijah, 6; and Olivia, 2.

Sha’Vonne Ironche will serve as the chair of the Lay Teaching Committee.

    Welcome, Kanika!

    God bless,
    Jack Matkin

P.S. Kanika’s paternal grandparents grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Texas - hometown of Rhonda and Jack Matkin, too!
