Dear Dickinson First Family and Friends,
Summer has arrived and there are many signs of its presence. Triple-digit heat index temperatures certainly come to mind quickly! And increased traffic to and from Galveston Island, as summer tourists arrive for the surf and sand and sun.
There are signs of summer in the church, too. This coming Sunday will be the last Sunday for our Chancel Choir. They are getting a much-deserved vacation from rehearsals and Sunday anthems. They and our Hand Bell Choir have worked through multiple changes in rehearsal protocols and even rehearsal spaces. We give God great thanks for our dedicated musicians and vocalists.
We have children, youth, and adults attending summer church camp at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center in the piney woods of East Texas. It’s the same place I began attending summer church camp 56 years ago! Much has changed since then, but I know that their time at Lakeview will include daily worship and Bible study and prayer. We pray Godspeed upon our campers.
The Fellowship Ministry Team will be hosting our first summer fellowship gathering this coming Wednesday night. They are planning a fellowship event each month of the summer, to give us an opportunity to see each others’ faces and catch up. This month it’s a good old-fashioned fried chicken dinner. They will provide the fried chicken, iced tea, and lemonade, and they are asking us to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert.
More than just grass grows greener and faster at the beginning of the summer. That’s why our Trustees will be holding a Church Work Day next Saturday. It’s not all-day, just the morning. More hands really spread the work out, even if you can only come for an hour.
I’ll leave discussion of mosquitos for another day.
