Peace Beyond Understanding

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” —John 14:27

In recent months, my husband and I have buried 2 of our precious sons. Never in a thousand years did we imagine losing two of our children within 13 months of each other. To stand in the cemetery and see their gravestones is something I never imagined we would do. Yet, in the midst of this hurt and pain, we have maintained our faith and love in Jesus Christ. So many people have asked, “How have we coped with our loss, yet resonated with such peace?”

Recently during my morning quiet time, God beautifully answered this question for me. I did not hear His audible voice, but I did feel the power of His message when He asked, “Which is greater, the loss and loneliness of not having Cody and Kyle here on earth with me, or the peace of knowing that both of them are safe for eternity with their heavenly Father?”

My answer, “I miss my boys terribly and think of them every day. Yet, I have peace with God.  After all, I placed both of them in His hands years ago.”
