Tuesday of Week Two
Peace In Prayer

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:7
Peace of God, peace of mind, peace of body and soul. How do we find this peace?
In 2006, I spent 3 weeks in the hospital with staph pneumonia. It was touch and go for a while and I am sure that I did not feel much peace. I was afraid. My family and friends gave me strength and my faith brought me hope. However, I was missing a feeling of peace and calm.
On my first weekend back home, I wanted to go to church but wasn’t sure I had the energy. I prayed for strength and my husband took me to church. We sneaked in through the side door of the “old sanctuary” and sat in the back row. That morning, my sister was giving the Children’s Sermon. At the end, she told the congregation that she had been praying for me and asked how many people there had also been praying for me. As hands raised across the sanctuary, I felt peace settle in my heart. I knew then that my church would always be a place where I would find the peace of God, my peace of mind and the peace for my body and soul.

Personal Reflection:
Think of a time when you felt an unexplainable peace in the middle of a difficult situation. How did God’s presence sustain you? How draw upon that peace today?
Daily Action:
Write a prayer request for someone and place it in the prayer box found in The Commons outside of the sanctuary.
