Sunday of Week One

Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” When the devil had finished every test, he departed from him until an opportune time.

—Luke 4:12-13

Labyrinths are ancient symbols that represent wholeness, and journey to the center, then back out into the world. Walking a labyrinth can be a beautiful, embodied, spiritual practice. It offers a way to slow your pace, to center yourself on being present with God. A labyrinth is not a maze, but a path to follow—we walk in to the center, where you may stay as long as you like, and then we journey outward, following the path back to the beginning. 

Consider the labyrinth path as a threefold journey: 

• The Inward Journey, towards God/the Center
• Being with God/Dwelling in the Center
• The Outward Journey, as we are sent back to engage the world

Today’s Action:

Each Sunday, your action is to take a 15 minute walk. During this time, dwell on the word prompt and scripture at the top of the page. What does it say to you? Half way through your walk, pause and treat this as a quiet center. Set a spell with God, allow the time in this space to listen to God’s voice, then journey back to where you came from. If you want to walk further, or shorter, that is up to you. Each Sunday, we will repeat these directions, but will include a new word prompt, scripture, and a local labyrinth you may consider visiting.
