The Gift of God’s Peace

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” —John 14:27

Peace often feels out of reach. We get caught up in the busyness of life, focusing on our struggles and distractions rather than keeping our eyes on the cross. Too often, when I pray for those facing medical challenges or grieving a loss, I ask God to grant them the peace that only He can provide. The truth is, finding peace on our own can be incredibly difficult—if not impossible. We become so consumed by our daily struggles that we fixate on the problems rather than seeking the ultimate solution.

We fool ourselves into believing that we have the power to fix everything, that we can conquer any obstacle on our own. But that is simply not true. Our peace is not found in our own strength—it is found in God.

We can experience His peace through worship, through studying His Word, through prayer, and through fellowship with His people. I have felt God’s peace in each of these ways. When peace seems elusive, why not turn to the One who offers it freely? Why not seek the One who can calm our hearts, the One who can be like a natural remedy for the anxiety and burdens we carry?

True peace is not something we can manufacture on our own. It comes when we equip ourselves with the tools of faith—when we actively pursue God. In doing so, peace no longer remains just a distant hope, but a present and abiding reality.

As we journey together through this Lenten devotional, take a moment to be still with the stories and hearts of your faith family. May you open yourself up to experiencing a time of peace and love with God.
