The Golden Hour

“Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.” —Psalm 46:10

As a wildlife photographer you always want to catch the “golden hour.” That is the time when the sun begins to rise and your lighting is absolutely beautiful. The way the sun rays shine down on your subject with its magical colors, you would never be able to recreate even with the most expensive camera equipment. The lighting is so pure and delicate, and the colors seem to be brighter in the quietness of the early dawn. The exact moment when it goes from dark to light you know that only God can create something so divine. God indeed is a master painter of the skies.

I find myself in constant awe and wonder when I am out in the early morning hours, camera in hand, looking for God’s wonders. I often repeat eight simple words to myself, “Be still and know that I am God.” This is Psalm 46:10. This verse reminds me to slow down and to be quiet. It brings me comfort in knowing that God is there for us in good times and in bad.

In the beauty of fresh snow or in the turmoil of a hurricane, in the quiet moments of the dawn, or in times of chaos, let us all remember to be still and know the love and comfort of God.

Personal Reflection:

Think of a place where you experience “the golden hour,” even if just for five minutes. Breathe deeply and allow yourself to rest in God’s presence. What image does your mind capture? Offer them to God and give praise for His goodness.

Daily Action:

Find something beautiful that could only come from God and share that image with someone.
